# How are risk points calculated?
## Argus applies risk points for risky driving events like speeding, with more points where more risk attributes — school zone, night time, adverse weather — apply at once.
Argus applies risk points to a vehicle whenever a driver's behaviour is flagged as risky, most commonly speeding. The more risk attributes that apply to a single event — for example speeding at night, in a school zone, in one event — the more risk points that event earns, because the combination represents greater danger.

## What does risk point scoring do?
It turns individual risky driving events into a score that feeds the Driver Behaviour and Fleet Behaviour Insights pages, the risk point reports under Reporting, and each driver's star rating.
## How does risk point scoring work?
Argus reports on six risk attributes: **Speeding** (travelling 10 km/h or more over the speed limit), **Open Road** (10 km/h or more over the limit on the open road, a higher-crash area), **Night Time** (10 km/h or more over the limit after sundown, a higher-crash time), **School Zone** (10 km/h or more over the limit through a school zone), **Adverse Weather** (speeding in bad weather conditions), and **Cruise Speeding** (maintaining an overspeed for a sustained distance — the vehicle logs its position every 500 metres, so this attribute means at least 1 km was covered at a high speed).
Each attribute applies independently based on the conditions at the time. A single overspeed event can trigger more than one attribute at once — for example speeding on the open road, at night, in adverse weather — and events with more attributes attached earn more risk points than a single-attribute event. Argus does not publish the specific point weightings behind this beyond that overview.
## Who uses risk point scoring, and when would I use it?
Fleet managers and safety-focused roles use it to identify at-risk drivers and driving patterns, and to feed the star rating and risk point reports used for coaching and review.
## What do I need to see risk point detail?
Drilling into risk point evidence on the Driver Behaviour page, or running the risk point reports under Reporting, needs the MIDI plan or above.

## Do all six attributes apply to every speeding event?
No. Each attribute applies independently based on the conditions at the time — time of day, location, weather and duration. A single overspeed event can trigger more than one attribute at once.
