# How do I create a geofence?

## Create a geofence from your dashboard or directly from a Stop Report, and edit any existing geofence's shape, colour or name at any time.

You can create a geofence from your dashboard by searching for an address and drawing its shape, or directly from a Stop Report. Both methods save the same way, and any geofence you've created can be edited afterwards.

## How do I create a geofence from my dashboard?

1. From your dashboard, go to **Geofences \> Add New Geofences**.
2. Search for the address where you want the geofence in the **Find Address** search bar. As you type, matching addresses appear — select the correct one from the results.
3. Once you select an address, the geofence appears on the map as a red circle by default. To change the shape, open the **Type of Geofence** drop-down and select **Polygon Geofence**, then click on the map to place markers and draw the shape you need. Drag any marker to move it.
4. (Optional) Change the geofence's colour from the **Geofence Colour** drop-down — options include aqua, blue, green, lime, purple and silver.
5. Select the asset or group the geofence should apply to — leave it as **All Assets** to apply it to your whole fleet. Enter a name for the geofence and choose when it should be active.
6. Click the blue **Save** button to save your geofence.

## How do I create a geofence from a Stop Report?

This only works on Stop Reports exported in Web Version format. From your Web Version Stop Report, click on the location you want to turn into a geofence, then click the **Create Geofence** link in the top right of the map view. This takes you to the Create Geofence page — follow the address, shape, colour and save steps above to finish setting it up.

## How do I edit a geofence I've already created?

1. From the side menu, select **Geofences** to open the Geofences page, which lists all your existing geofences.
2. Find the geofence you want to edit — use the search box if you have more than one page of geofences.
3. Click the blue edit icon next to the geofence.
4. Make the changes you need: drag the red markers to resize the geofence, change its shape from the **Type of Geofence** drop-down, change its colour from the **Geofence Colour** drop-down, or scroll down below the map to change its name or other details.
5. Click the blue **Save** button to save your changes.

## How do I know it worked?

Your new or edited geofence appears on the Geofences list with the name and shape you set. It will show on the map in Spectate and View History from the point it was created, and its name will start appearing in reports if **Show in Reports** is turned on — see [what the geofence setup options do](https://help.argustracking.co.nz/knowledge-base/what-do-the-geofence-setup-options-do?hsLang=en-au).

## What if it doesn't work?

If the address search doesn't find the location you want, try searching with less detail (just the street and suburb) or place the geofence manually by selecting Polygon Geofence and clicking directly on the map. If your changes to an existing geofence don't appear to save, check you clicked **Save** at the bottom of the page after making your edits — navigating away without saving discards the changes.
