# How do I fix a RUC screen I can't read on a long-nose heavy vehicle?

## What is the long-nose heavy vehicle compliance issue?
On a subset of heavy vehicles — long-nose variants where the cab sits very high — a RUC screen mounted directly on the windscreen can't be conveniently read from ground level, either by the driver taking a logbook reading or by a roadside enforcement officer during an inspection. Enforcement officers have a legal right to penalise a vehicle if its RUC display can't be conveniently read from street level, so a standard windscreen fitting on these vehicles is a compliance exposure.
## What is the compliant solution?
The fix is a windscreen suction cup mount that lets the screen clip on and off easily from inside the cab. This keeps the screen driver-facing and readable for daily logbook readings, lets the driver detach it and hand it to an enforcement officer during a roadside check, and allows it to be reattached easily afterwards. The screen can also be tilted for a quick reading without removing it.
## Does this add to the cost of my vehicle?

If you're not sure whether your truck is a long-nose variant, send a photo of the cab interior showing the windscreen and Argus will confirm before install.
## How do I replace a screen that's already affected?
1. Your replacement screen arrives pre-fitted with the windscreen mounting kit.
2. Remove the old screen and attach the new screen to the windscreen mount.
3. Record which screen serial number is fitted to which vehicle registration.
4. Return the old screen and send Argus the serial-to-registration mapping.
Recording and sending the serial-to-registration mapping is your responsibility — the licence transfer to your new screen depends on it, and is then pushed through automatically once Argus has the mapping.
