How do I create a custom user level profile

Administrators can build a Custom user profile from Settings > Users & Drivers by switching on individual feature permissions with the toggle sliders.

If a user needs access to specific areas of the platform that aren't covered by a default user profile, you can build a Custom user profile for them from Settings. It takes a few minutes and applies immediately once saved.

Also known as / customers also ask: custom user profile, custom permissions, custom user level, create a custom role, user permission profile, restrict user access

What you need before you start

  • You need Administrator access to create or edit user profiles.
  • Decide in advance which features the user should be able to see or use — the default profiles (Administrator, Power User, Everyday User, Reporter, Spectator, Compliance, Dispatcher, Driver) may already cover what you need. See the different Argus user profile levels.

How do I create a custom user level profile?

  1. From the Argus Dashboard sidebar, go to Settings, then select Users & Drivers.
  2. On the Users and Drivers page, select the blue Add button to add a new user.
  3. Under User Profile, select Custom from the dropdown list of profiles.
  4. A permissions panel opens, listing each feature as a slider. Select the sliders for the features you want this user to see or use. A slider turns blue when the feature is turned on for that user.
  5. Select the blue Save button to save the permissions.
  6. Fill in the user's remaining details, such as name and email address. Fields marked with a red asterisk are required.
  7. Select the blue Save button again to save the new user.

How do I know it worked?

The new user appears in the Users and Drivers list with a profile of Custom. When that user signs in, they'll only see the features you switched on for them.

What if it doesn't work?

  • The Custom option isn't in the User Profile dropdown: check you're signed in as an Administrator — only Administrators can create or edit user profiles.
  • Save is greyed out or won't complete: check every field marked with a red asterisk has been filled in.
  • The user can't see a feature you switched on: ask the user to sign out and back in, since permission changes apply from the next sign-in.
