How do I set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Every Argus customer can enable MFA from Settings > Account > Security, linking an authenticator app by scanning a QR code and saving backup codes.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds a second verification step to sign-in, on top of your password. Every Argus Tracking customer can turn it on from Settings > Account > Security using an authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or Authy.
Also known as / customers also ask: MFA, two-factor authentication, 2FA, authenticator app, enable MFA, disable MFA, backup codes, security tab
What you need before you start
- A mobile device to install an authenticator app on (Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or Authy).
- MFA is available to every Argus Tracking customer — no specific plan is required.
How do I activate MFA?
- From the left-hand menu, go to Settings > Account, open the Security tab, and select Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Install one of the recommended authenticator apps on your mobile device from the App Store or Google Play, then select Next.
- Open your authenticator app and use it to scan the QR code shown on screen. If scanning isn't possible, select Enter code manually instead. Once the account is added in your app, select Next.
- Enter the 6-digit verification code your authenticator app generates, then select Next.
- Save your backup codes somewhere secure, using Download .txt or Copy All. Tick the box confirming you've saved them, then select Done. Each backup code can only be used once, and they let you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app.
How do I know MFA is enabled?
Return to the Security page under Settings > Account. You'll see Authenticator App listed under enabled factors, your backup codes available, a Disable MFA option, and options to view or regenerate your codes.
How do I disable MFA?
- Go to Settings > Account > Security.
- Under Two-Factor Authentication, find Authenticator App in the Enabled Factors section and select Disable MFA.
- In the confirmation dialog, review the warning and enter your current password.
- Select Disable MFA again to confirm. MFA is now off for your account.
What if it doesn't work?
- The QR code won't scan: select Enter code manually in the setup wizard and type the code into your authenticator app instead.
- You've lost your authenticator app or backup codes: contact Argus support for help regaining access.
- The verification code is rejected: check your device's clock is set to the correct time, since authenticator codes are time-based.
Keep your backup codes somewhere safe and don't share your verification codes or backup codes with anyone. If you're still stuck, contact Argus support.
