What does NZTA recommend for maintaining my vehicles?
Your vehicles need regular inspections and maintenance to stay safe and perform efficiently. Vehicles that are maintained well also cost less to run, are less likely to be out of service for extended periods, and are less likely to be involved in crashes.
What am I responsible for between inspections?
It's your responsibility to keep a vehicle in the same condition as when it passed its WoF or CoF. For example, tyres that pass on inspection day still need replacing before the tread reaches the minimum legal depth — waiting until the next inspection increases the risk of a crash or a fine.
What's illegal under NZTA rules?
It's illegal to drive a vehicle that doesn't meet WoF or CoF requirements, or that doesn't display a valid WoF or CoF label.
Why does driver training matter?
However sophisticated a vehicle's technology is, driver behaviour is the most important factor in avoiding crashes. Investing in driver training — so drivers know how to use their vehicles and understand what's expected of them on the road — improves safety for your drivers and other road users.
How does workplace safety law apply to my fleet?
Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act, a work-related vehicle is considered part of the workplace. This means workplace health and safety rules also apply to work-related motor vehicles.
Why should I have a safe driving policy?
Every dent, speeding ticket or collision involving your vehicles affects your business's financial position. Making safe driving part of your business policy can reduce these costs and help protect lives.
