What is an asset profile, and what can I do with it?

The asset profile is where you set an asset's name, registration, groups, photos and detail fields — most reports and the Asset Register draw on it directly.

An asset profile is the control centre for a single tracked item in Argus — the place to set its name, registration, groups, photos and other details. Open one from My Assets by selecting the blue Profile button under the asset you want.

Also known as / customers also ask: asset profile, vehicle profile, edit asset details, asset details page, vehicle details page

What does an asset profile do?

It's where you manage everything about one asset: its name, registration, which groups it belongs to, its photos, and a set of detail fields covering the vehicle, its safety and efficiency, and other information. Reports and the Asset Register pull much of their per-asset data straight from here, so a well-filled-in profile makes both more useful.

How does an asset profile work?

The profile is organised into sections. The Name box sets how the asset is identified everywhere in Argus — by default this is the vehicle's registration, but you can change it (see how to change the name of an asset). The Registration field is required and should have no trailing spaces. The Groups field lets you assign the asset to one or more groups (see how to add an asset to a group or change its group), and the Images section holds up to three photos (see how to add a photo to your vehicle).

Further down the page, Asset Details is split across three tabs: Vehicle, Safety & Efficiency, and Other. On the Vehicle tab, Make, Model, Engine Number, Year, Vehicle Type and Fuel Type are populated automatically from NZTA data where it's available, and left blank otherwise. The rest of the fields across these tabs cover your organisation (Fleet ID, Cost Centre, Fuel Card Number), lease details, purchase details, and vehicle specifics such as tyre size. If you're unsure of a vehicle's details, Carjam or Rightcar are useful sources.

Below Asset Details, a row of toggles controls Driver ID Tags, Buzzer and the Speed-Limited 90 km/h setting. An enabled toggle shows blue; a disabled one shows white. Turning on Driver ID or Buzzer here doesn't activate the feature by itself — both need additional hardware, so submit a support request or contact your account manager to add them. Select the blue Save button after changing any toggle.

The profile also has a free-text Notes field and a Documents upload area (see how to add documents to an asset's profile).

Who uses an asset profile, and when?

Anyone setting up a new asset or keeping fleet records current. It's worth revisiting whenever a vehicle's details change — a new lease, a group reassignment, or an updated cost centre.

What do I need to use an asset profile?

Access to My Assets, and permissions to edit — this is generally available to Administrators and Power Users.

How do I get started with an asset profile?

Open the asset in My Assets and work through each section: confirm the name and registration, set its groups, add photos, and fill in as much of the Vehicle, Safety & Efficiency and Other detail as you have. The more complete the profile, the more accurate the Asset Register and your reports will be.
