To set up a real-time overspeed alert for a driver, create a notification under Settings > Notifications for the asset they drive, choosing the speed threshold and how they're notified. It takes a few minutes.

What you need before you start
- Access to Settings > Notifications.
- The driver needs the Argus Tracking Fleet Management app installed on their mobile device if they'll receive the alert by app.
How do I set up an overspeed alert for a driver?
- From the side menu, select Settings, then Notifications.
- In the first drop-down box, select the asset you want the alert to apply to.
- In the second drop-down box, select the user you want notified — this can be the driver themselves, if they have a user profile, or a manager who should know when this driver speeds.
- In the Notification box, beside Overspeed Alert, select the blue threshold figure (20 by default) to change the speed threshold that triggers the alert.
- Beside Overspeed Alert, use the toggles under Email and App to choose how the alert is delivered.
- Select the blue Create button to create and activate the alert.
How do I know it worked?
The new alert appears in your Notifications list for that asset and user, showing the threshold and delivery method you chose.
What if it doesn't work?
- The driver isn't receiving app alerts — check they have the Fleet Management app installed and are logged in, and that the App toggle is switched on for this alert.
- The alert fires but no risk point appears, or a risk point appears with no alert — this is expected: the alert threshold and the risk-point threshold are configured separately and won't always match. See why you got an overspeed alert or a risk point.
- I can't find the user I want to notify in the drop-down — they need an existing user profile on your account first; see how to set up a new user.
This article doesn't cover the difference between an overspeed alert and a risk point — see real-time overspeed alerts. If the alert still isn't behaving as expected after checking the above, contact Argus support.
