How do I set up an overspeed alert for a driver?

Create a notification under Settings > Notifications for the driver's asset, set the speed threshold, and choose email or app delivery.

To set up a real-time overspeed alert for a driver, create a notification under Settings > Notifications for the asset they drive, choosing the speed threshold and how they're notified. It takes a few minutes.

Also known as / customers also ask: set up overspeed alert, create a speed alert, notify driver of speeding, overspeed notification setup, speeding alert for driver

What you need before you start

  • Access to Settings > Notifications.
  • The driver needs the Argus Tracking Fleet Management app installed on their mobile device if they'll receive the alert by app.

How do I set up an overspeed alert for a driver?

  1. From the side menu, select Settings, then Notifications.
  2. In the first drop-down box, select the asset you want the alert to apply to.
  3. In the second drop-down box, select the user you want notified — this can be the driver themselves, if they have a user profile, or a manager who should know when this driver speeds.
  4. In the Notification box, beside Overspeed Alert, select the blue threshold figure (20 by default) to change the speed threshold that triggers the alert.
  5. Beside Overspeed Alert, use the toggles under Email and App to choose how the alert is delivered.
  6. Select the blue Create button to create and activate the alert.

How do I know it worked?

The new alert appears in your Notifications list for that asset and user, showing the threshold and delivery method you chose.

What if it doesn't work?

  • The driver isn't receiving app alerts — check they have the Fleet Management app installed and are logged in, and that the App toggle is switched on for this alert.
  • The alert fires but no risk point appears, or a risk point appears with no alert — this is expected: the alert threshold and the risk-point threshold are configured separately and won't always match. See why you got an overspeed alert or a risk point.
  • I can't find the user I want to notify in the drop-down — they need an existing user profile on your account first; see how to set up a new user.

This article doesn't cover the difference between an overspeed alert and a risk point — see real-time overspeed alerts. If the alert still isn't behaving as expected after checking the above, contact Argus support.
