What's the difference between Smart eRUC, Smart eRUC Heavy and Smart Hubo?

Smart eRUC and Smart eRUC Heavy update overnight via an overlap licence; Smart Hubo can usually show a new licence within about 15 minutes of provisioning.

Smart eRUC, Smart eRUC Heavy and Smart Hubo are Argus's three eRUC products; how quickly a new RUC licence appears on screen after installation depends on which one you have, so identifying your product is the first step in any licence-timing question.

What are the three products called?

If you bought under a partner brand name, here's how the names map to Argus product names: myRUC Pro is Smart eRUC, myRUC Heavy is Smart eRUC Heavy, and eRUC+ is Smart Hubo. Licence-timing behaviour differs by product, so knowing which one you have is the first step in working out what to expect.

How long does it take for a new licence to appear on screen?

For Smart eRUC and Smart eRUC Heavy, an overlap licence is purchased and the display updates overnight rather than immediately. For Smart Hubo, the licence can usually show on the display within around 15 minutes of provisioning completing, because the display has external power. In both cases, timing depends on complete paperwork being submitted and processed promptly — see how to get ready for your Smart Hubo installation for what to have ready in advance.

What should I do while I'm waiting for my new licence to show?

During a Smart eRUC or Smart eRUC Heavy changeover, remove the old paper RUC label from the windscreen and keep it on the dashboard until the new licence is shown on the myRUC screen. Keeping the paper label on the dashboard is what bridges the compliance gap while the display updates overnight.

Why does my new Smart Hubo licence start from 0?

When a Smart Hubo conversion is provisioned, your new licence starts from 0 as part of the conversion to the new system.

What is an overlap licence?

An overlap licence is a new licence purchased to extend an existing one, with the unused portion of the old licence credited automatically towards the new one. For the full worked example of how the credit is calculated, see how RUC invoicing and licence credits work.

What should the gate reader screen show after installation?

Once a gate reader has been installed, its screen should fairly quickly show a status word, a Sensor ID number, and a Serial Number. If these don't appear, the install hasn't come up correctly and you should contact Argus support.

What happens if I'm asked to complete an activation form as part of installation?

A successful form submission triggers a confirmation email. If you don't receive one, the form wasn't submitted successfully and needs to be resent — check for this before assuming your installation is complete.
